1968 — 1986
November 1968
Robert Portillo enters the world. A future entrepreneur, technician, marketing pioneer and lover of life.
Age 7 · 1975
Elementary school thought Robert was struggling to learn. His parents fought back. The school tested him and moved him a grade ahead where he started to thrive. Robert went on to win several scholastic awards, including the highest state test scores in his entire elementary school - scoring 3 - 5 grades ahead of his age. Robert loved school and won many "perfect attendance" awards.
Age 10 · 1978
As a kid, Robert was madly in love with science and technology. By age 11 he owned 3 chemistry sets, 2 microscopes, a telescope, a biology kit, and 2 electronics kits. His neighbors would bring their broken electronics to him, and he'd fix them.
Age 11 · 1979
In 7th grade, Robert wrote a book on electronics. He joined the marching band and played trumpet for 3 years. He won "Best English Student in the 7th grade and Played softball, flag football, and ran cross country. When not at at school, Robert spent countless hours riding his bike with friends. He has a home music studio where he jams with his family.
Age 17 · 1985
Two years of electronics in high school. Avid skateboarder to this day. Graduated and attended university at Chaffee College while working 35 hours a week.
Age 18 · 1986
Became an avid tennis player, a passion that would last five years while balancing college and work. He would often play 3 - 5 hours straight!
Chapter Two
1988 — 2010
Age 20 · 1988
Hired at Safetran Systems as a CWA union member level 2 electrical assembler. Safetran was the world's largest railroad signaling and equipment manufacturer. But what he really wanted was to start his own business. In his spare time he devoured books like "How to Win Friends and Influence People and Jay Conrad Levinson's "Guerrilla Marketing." series.

Became obsessed with mountain biking which remains his passion more than 35 years later.
Age 22 · 1990
He also started indoor horticulture with a Phototron unit he saw while reading High Times Magazine. He then upgraded to High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide lights and built his own custom hydroponic systems.

Passed the electrical inspector test — youngest ever. By 23, youngest electronics technician too. CWA level 8 of 10.

Subscribed to High Times and joined NORML — dreaming of legalization.
Age 24 · 1992
Tired of punching the time clock, he struck out on his own to become an entrepreneur. The corporate world couldn't contain him. He's been a full time business owner ever since.
Age 25 · 1993
Robert started several business including curb painting, clay pot soldiers, gift baskets, a joking service, grocery delivery. None of them performed well. Every failure was fuel.
Age 27 · 1995
Robert dove deep into indoor and outdoor horticulture. In his spare time he built his first two Windows 3.1 systems from spare parts and 250MB hard drives.
Age 28 · 1996
Combined his love for music and computers and built a small digital home recording studio that would grow into a full production facility. Robert still has a (better) home studio to this day.
Age 30 · 1998
Learned Flash animation and built his first website, then "dopetunes.com" entirely in Flash programming.
Age 30-31 · 1998-1999
Recorded over 100 original songs. Produced and mastered records for local bands as the home studio grew.
Age 32 · 2000
Designed his first website for money — a clothing retail site before e-commerce was mainstream. Since then, Robert and colleagues have built over 1,000 websites.
Age 33 · 2001
Robert founded PC Fixer Computer Repair his first truly successful business. It took him a year to build up his clientele to full time.
Age 35 · 2003
PC Fixer grew rapidly. Acquired clients like HBO, Sony, Paramount Studios, KCRW, UCLA, USC and hundreds more. Robert meets his future wife on Match.com.
Age 37 · 2005
Joined an exclusive networking group "Executive LeTip of West Los Angeles". Started receiving 15-30 leads monthly. Hired first employee Jacky, who stayed 11 years before illness made him retire. Quickly grew to 3 full-time technicians.
Age 39 · 2007
Discovered SEO from an underground genius name "Lou". Lou helped PC Fixer hit #1 on Google for hundreds of keywords. Client roster crossed 1,000. Robert became obsessed with SEO.
Age 40 · 2008
Mastered Yelp and Google Local. PC Fixer Drop-off repairs equaled onsite work. Robert built 7 Google local profiles and 7 websites and phone numbers to match and extended his reach to over 1,500 regular clients - 60% business/40% homes.
Age 41-42 · 2009-2010
Married in Akron, Ohio. Started planning to open a computer store as neighbors grew concerned about foot traffic coming in and out of Robert's converted garage.
Age 40 · 2008
Mastered Yelp and GMB. Drop-off repairs equaled onsite work. Over 1,000 clients — 60% business, 40% home users.
Age 41-42 · 2009-2010
Married in Akron, Ohio. Started planning to open a computer store as neighbors grew concerned about home business traffic.
Chapter Three
2011 — 2016
February 22, 2011
Venice Beach. "The Coolest Street in America." A concept store fusing art, tech, and repair. 17 employees. Sales rivaling the Apple Store per sq ft. First son born.
2012
Bought first house with a greenhouse. Started cultivating exotic plants — succulents, orchids, and more.
2013
"How'd you get to #1?" The side project became a business. Later Nimbus Marketing, now BroBex — named after his two sons.
2014
Wife gave birth to second son. Stopped coming to Tech Studio daily — down to once a week to focus on building Tech Studio SEO.
2015
Retail too hard, rent too high. Moved to Mar Vista. Discovered Dr. Flint McGlaughlin — the world's foremost CRO expert.
2016
Cannabis became legal in California. Started growing exotic varieties outdoors. Became absentee owner of Tech Studio, focusing only on SEO. PC Fixer voted #1 IT Services in LA.
Chapter Four
2017 — 2026
2017
His SEO put both top competing repair shops out of business. Both owners confirmed it. 100+ websites built.
2018
Renamed Tech Studio SEO to Nimbus Marketing. The SEO business was growing stronger than ever.
2019
Built customer intake system and repair SOPs in preparation to sell the repair store. The exit strategy was in motion.
January 31, 2020
Sold Tech Studio, PC Fixer, and all properties. After two decades in repair, Robert became a full-time SEO professional.
2021
Nimbus Marketing grew month by month. Full-time focus on SEO was paying off.
2022
Took on first cannabis dispensary client. A new industry beckoned.
2024
Became fascinated with dispensary marketing. Acquired first dedicated dispensary SEO client.
2025
Mastered the cannabis business. Founded "Dispensary Domination" — a lifetime of expertise crystallized into one mission.
